Video rough cut learner response

Video rough cut feedback

Comments & feedback:

  • There are some strong elements here – good lip-syncing in the performance sections, some creative shots and locations. The challenge now is to work on the overall structure of the video as it feels like you perhaps don’t have enough material for the full three minutes?
  • The brand identity and shoe sponsorship elements are in there but could you make a bit more of them? Great to see you’ve included it though.
  • The non-performance elements are quite patchy – you’ve got some good, creative shots but also some weaker shots. Did you consider adding effects, colour grading or some other post-production element to those sections? Think about what could work with the song here.
  • Generally, I think it’s worth reflecting on the overall three-minute structure when re-editing the final cut. It feels a little like it ends with 30 seconds still to play and I’m not 100% sure if there is a narrative element – is the art room aspect narrative or performance?
  • Think about the overall balance and structure of the video. It may help to remember the workshop we did at Royal Holloway in terms of structuring music video and ensuring progression to keep the audience watching.

Three improvements I want to make is:
-make the narrative a lot more clear instead of adding shots that don't link with each other
-add more performance elements especially at the start so that it doesn't feel random
-re- edit the ending so that there is a clear resolution and aim to show a structure to the music video
