Preliminary exercise learner response

 1) Type up your teacher's feedback in full plus a summary of the comments you received from other students in the class.

  • Opening shot is brilliant – beautifully constructed. Great to see the brand identity created and included on there too which was part of the brief (even if it didn’t go on screen where you expected it!)
  • Text on screen for title of song is too quick, feels rushed.
  • Some nice artistic shots but I’m not sure the flashback / elements to camera quite work. Perhaps due to audio? I wonder whether to show they are flashbacks in a different way – colour, slow motion or similar?
  • Are you planning to include some kind of performance element in the final video?

WWW:
-video matches the feel of the song
-match on action
-colour gradient and opening shot
-variety of shots
-sound effects
-shoe sponsorship
-logo

EBI:
-sound on the flash back scenes
-dialogue edit out

2) Using a combination of your own reflection on the preliminary exercise and the feedback you were given, write three WWW bullet points and three EBI bullet points for your work.

I believe that filming a variety of shots went well as I explored many creative ways to capture me walking. I think the way i included the shoes was good as the transition was quite fast and matched a music video pace. I also liked the colour gradient i used as it matched the vibe of my song. Moving forward, I think i need to use less clips of me walking as it gets reputative and even make the flash backs more clearer to the viewers. I do also hope to add a performance element of me lip-syncing or playing a musical instrument.

3) How effectively did you complete the objective you laid out in your mini preliminary exercise statement of intent?

I achieved most of my statement of intent, I believe I followed the brief with two settings and the shoe sponsorship being subtle as well as a brand identity.

4) What have you learned from the preliminary exercise that will help you in the actual coursework project?

I found it important  to film more than you plan to, especially with longer scenes as when it comes to editing you might not like how a clip looks. Also learned that when screening on a bigger screen things like sound can be higher than expected.

5) Now you have completed the preliminary exercise, will you change anything about your actual coursework video plan? This could include your concept, cast/actors or technical elements such as mise-en-scene, camerawork or editing.

I am quite happy with how my preliminary turned out, although I do hope to switch around some of the clips and putting in a performance elements. Also I want to change the start by not only making the text on screen longer but making the text on the phone clearer.
